Anna van Duin is Associate Professor of Private Law at the University of Amsterdam. Her work focuses on Tort Law, Civil Procedure, Private Enforcement of Digital Rights, and Access to Justice and Effective Remedies in EU (Consumer) Law. She examines how private law and procedural norms operate in a digital society and how effective judicial protection is shaped in areas such as platform regulation, consumer rights and collective redress.
Anna leads several research projects, including on the role of collective action in the data economy (APPLIED) and private enforcement of the GDPR and the DSA. Her work combines doctrinal, comparative and empirical methods and is carried out in collaboration with partners within and beyond the university. She is a frequent speaker at international conferences and contributes to academic and policy debates on issues relating to liability, litigation and civil justice in the digital era. She brings several years of practical experience as an attorney specialising in procedural law.
As programme director of the Master’s in Private Law, Anna is responsible for the direction, organisation and quality assurance of the programme and its two tracks. She is also involved in various initiatives on the responsible use of AI in legal education. She currently supervises three PhD candidates and holds several organisational and societal roles, including membership of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Consumentenbond and the editorial board of the Tijdschrift voor Civiele Rechtspleging (TCR).
