A special issue of the Netherlands Journal of Legal Philosophy on “Virtue and the Legal Professions” has recently been published, edited by Iris van Domselaar (University of Amsterdam) and Amalia Amaya Navarro (The University of Edinburgh).

From the Introduction by Iris and Amalia

“This volume aims to contribute to the development of a virtue approach to the ethics of the legal professions. Although virtue theory has already been erected as an important framework for examining central issues in professional legal ethics in contemporary legal scholarship, the spread of virtue theoretic analysis to the ethics of the legal professions has been uneven. Judicial ethics has received a great deal of attention, compared with the work being done on other legal professionals. (…) This special issue aims to broaden the scope of a virtue theory of the ethics of the legal professions and show the fruitfulness of this framework to give an account of the ethical dimensions of a diversity of legal professional roles.“
