    Profile

    Dr. Hege Elisabeth Kjos' research and lectures focus on public international law and international dispute settlement in general, and international investment law and arbitration in particular. Her current research concerns domestic courts' engagement with foreign investment law. Further, she is a member of the Faculty of Law Works Council and the University Central Works Council.

    Dr. Kjos was previously employed at the Legal Department of the World Bank in Washington D.C. and has been assisting in research for arbitrators and experts in investor-state arbitrations.  She is Deputy General Editor of Arbitration International (OUP) and serves on the Advisory Board of the Brill Research Perspectives: International Investment Law and Arbitration

    Hege Elisabeth Kjos holds a Juris Doctor degree with distinction, a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction following studies in the United States, the Netherlands, France, and Norway. In 2010 she defended her doctoral dissertation which formed part of the Pionier Project on 'Interactions Between International Law and National Law,' co-funded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the University of Amsterdam. Subsequently, she carried out postdoctoral research within the project 'International Law Through the Prism of National Courts: the Impact of Judicial Dialogue', funded under the European Collaborative Research Project of the European Science Foundation. Among the publications following from this research is the edited volume Judicial Dialogue and Human Rights (Cambridge University Press 2017).

    Hege Elisabeth Kjos is the author of the book Applicable Law in Investor-State Arbitration: The Interplay Between National and International Law, which was published by Oxford University Press as part of the series 'Oxford Monographs in International Law.' The book is also a freely available PDF Open Access book in the OAPEN Library, as a result of OUP’s participation in OAPEN (UK).
